Researchers from the Lisbon Institute analyzed the response of cats to various genres of music. It turns out that traditional music relaxes the animal, and the songs of AC/DC cause a powerful stress.
Portuguese scientists wore headphones on animals and included them two-minute music tracks. With all this, the experiment was conducted at the veterinary hospital, during operation, when the cat was under the influence of anesthesia.
The aim of the experience was to check how cats perceive music, and whether it is a specific melody to reduce the level of stress during the operation, The Daily Mail reports. "After reading about the influence of music on physiological characteristics of the inhabitants of our planet, I decided to study whether the music is similar to shape of my patients," explained the vet Miguel's Career from the Institute of Lisbon.
Scientists are alternately included traditional melody, pop songs and heavy metal 12 cats. With all this, we measured the heart rate and respiration rate of the animal.
It turns out that traditional music causes in cats relaxation. Especially strong reaction was seen on Adagio for strings by Samuel Barber. Less effective was the song "Torn" Natalia Imbruglia. And the song "Thunderstruck" by AC/DC animals caused a sudden increase in stress level.
Scientists believe that taking into account the influence of music on Pets, owners will be able perfectly to calm the animal, when it is agitated, or to help him get through a serious operation. In addition veterinarians suggest to continue their experiments to study dogs and other animals.
