Gazprom, a Russian energy giant, has shown an interest in buying Mosenergosbyt, which produces about 8% of Russia`s electricity, the director general of the country`s largest electricity selling company said.
"Mosenergosbyt has aroused the interest of Gazprom and some other Russian electricity companies, including [maintenance company] Transservis and Rosenergosbyt," Vladimir Kimerin said.
But he said the government had made no decision to sell Mosenergosbyt yet. "I think the government will first practice in selling smaller energy network companies before selling Mosenergosbyt," Kimerin said.
Russian state-controlled electricity giant United Energy System (UES), which owns 50.9% of Mosenergosbyt, has sold several regional electricity companies in the past few months as part of its restructuring move, and is preparing to sell a few more in September. Kimerin said a decision on Mosenergosbyt could be made after the September sales.
