Chair of the Ukrainian Supreme Rada Alexander Moroz has opened the fourth session of the Ukrainian parliament today.
While opening the session, Moroz announced the session will be held in accordance with Article 83 of the Ukrainian constitution and that the powers of the parliament will last till the next parliament convenes for its first session.
269 MPs were registered at the session, including members of the Regions Party, the Socialist Party and the Communist Party; besides, members of the Cabinet of Ministers led by Deputy Prime Minister Nikolai Azarov and several members of Yulia Timoshenko?s Bloc and Our Ukraine that practically took the side of the majority. As MP Alexander Golub said, the plan of the session is expected to be approved at today?s meeting, after that a break will be announced. The legislative work, according to the MP, is to start since tomorrow and continue till the end of the week.
It is worth mentioning, Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko reiterated that there are no legal grounds to hold an extraordinary session of the Supreme Rada. "I dot the i?s: in accordance with the constitution, the current Ukrainian Supreme Rada is powerless. Any decision of the Rada is illegitimate; it will have no practical or political effect. Actions of the MPs, who transgress the law, will have a clear legal assessment," he said while addressing the nation yesterday.
