Glad strengthened responsibility for the iniquity regarding correspondents
The Ukrainian Parliament on Thursday passed a Law toughening responsibility for lawlessness regarding correspondents. The proper decision was supported by 240 parliamentarians with the necessary minimum of 226 votes.
The bill still must be signed by the head of Ukraine. It is planned that it will take effect from the day following the day of its promulgation in the official media.
The document supplements the criminal rule of the country with a number of articles aimed at strengthening safeguards for the legitimate professional activities of correspondents. For example, the criminal rule will be added to the article regarding the responsibility for the dangers and violent action against the reporters.
"The danger of liquidation, violence or destruction of property of a journalist, his close relatives and family members associated with the Commission of professional activity, is punished with correctional labor for up to 2 years or by arrest for a term up to six months, or restraint of liberty for a term up to three years ", - said in the text of the law.
Murder or attempted murder of a journalist, his close relatives or family members punishable by deprivation of liberty for a period from 9 to fifteen years or life imprisonment. Legally, the seizure or retention in the form of hostage journalist or his close relatives is punishable by imprisonment for a term of eight to fifteen years.
in addition, it is proposed that in the event of the death of a journalist in the performance of professional duties to pay his family a one-time grant in the amount of 100 times the subsistence minimum. In case of health damage (contusion, trauma or injury) caused to the journalist during the execution of professional duties he will be paid from the state budget one-time grant of up to 50 times the subsistence minimum.
