"The World Bank forecasts that inflation in Russia in 2008 will amount to 7.5%", said Paloma Anos Casero, the bank`s economist behind a report on the Russian economy. It is very difficult for the Russian government to achieve its target indicators [7%] in 2008. According to our estimates, inflation will be 7.5%," she said at a briefing in Moscow In 2007, inflation could exceed 11%, she added. If significant measures are not taken, inflation might exceed 11%, the economist said. Nevertheless, the World Bank forecasts inflation in Russia in 2007 at 11%. She pointed to the limited efficiency of price control as relates to a number of food products. "Once the freeze on food prices is lifted, inflationary pressures will increase", she said.
