The Parliament of Ukraine adopted the law on the national police
The Parliament of Ukraine adopted in the General Law on the national police, which involves a major reform of the MIA. Such a decision at the meeting of Verkhovna Rada on Thursday supported 278 parliamentarians with the necessary minimum of 226 votes.
The law aims to reform the law enforcement system of the country, which will lead to the creation of appropriate European standards of police and provide a decent wage to its employees.
according to the document, from the national police will operate: criminal law enforcement, patrol and law enforcement agencies, law enforcement protection, special law enforcement agencies and law enforcement special forces (special forces - ed.).
The law requires that the police want to sign a contract for four years, which will allow to provide stability of their work. It is also planned that local authorities have the opportunity to Express no confidence in any police patrol. The main innovation is the recruitment to law enforcement agencies through a public competition. The activities of the national police coordinated by the Cabinet of Ministers through the head of the Ministry of internal Affairs.
The leader of the largest in the Parliament of the faction "Block of Petro Poroshenko" Yuriy Lutsenko said that the adoption of this law will enable to make a quality Ministry, which will be in Accordance with European standards to ensure the protection of rights and freedoms, as well as publicly to counter the crime.
"This is a revolutionary document, and I believe that we will finally receive law enforcement services the dependent Residents and from Residents to the police instead of a punitive system," - said Lutsenko, presenting the draft law in the Parliament.
According to him, Ukraine goes to the European form of the national police, which offers a certain amount of change, with clearly defined structure of the Ministry, the chief of police on their own through the competition Commission will appoint the Directors of the police on the ground.
