TSKHINVAL, February 11 (Itar-Tass) - The Transcaucasian highway was closed over heavy snow and the threat of avalanches, the head of the North Ossetian Emergencies Ministry?s press service, Vladimir Ivanov, told Itar-Tass on Wednesday.
"The emergencies commission closed the highway at 23:30 on February 10," he said. "Overnight the snow cover depth increased to 85 cm. Six avalanches struck the area from the Roki Tunnel to the Chertov (Devil?s) Bridge."
Avalanche-clearing operations are underway. It is still unknown when the traffic will be resumed.
