The Trojan virus has been found out in tens of Russian cash machines. Experts of the companies producing and serving bank terminals, have revealed in some operating devices harmful programs created for larceny of clients? data.
Malefactors, which have not been established yet, received all information on monetary accumulation on a card, expenses, PIN-code. The only thing the malefactors were to do was to approach a cash machine, type in a code and receive the check with all the data of potential victims of swindle. The damage is being counted up.
According to Pavel Koplatov, technologies expert at company Itcom new group, "Trojan" could get to the terminal only through an internal bank network. "It is necessary to search for vulnerability in banks. Most likely, some bank insiders are involved in infection. IT-specialists can easily reveal this virus. But the fact that there are precedents with infected terminals is very disturbing".
Experts tell, it is very difficult in case of theft from a card to prove to a bank that you have become a victim of swindle. Bankers reluctantly return the lost sums, and investigations of transaction of the lost means can be extended for some months.
A bit earlier in Russia from the whole range of electronic kinds of swindle connected with plastic cards only some cases of fishing were revealed. The most impudent way of a deceit were false terminals which have been placed by criminals in not crowded places, and devices read out data from the bank cards. In other swindle malefactors called the victim under the pretence of bank workers and tried to get the information (card serial number, PIN-code). Swindlers notified on ostensibly existing debts to the bank and new additional services. After receiving information about card requisites they made its copy. Process of its manufacturing for skillful technologists was not labour-consuming. The other way of fishing was connected with online work. E-mail letters with a bank logo were sent to bank clients where they were asked to confirm personal data, for example, for database updating. All "voluntary" given information was saved in criminals? base.
"Due to technological processes development swindle via bank terminal networks will grow, - considers Pavel Koplatov. - World financial crisis will only help criminals. During economic instability companies - producers of bank terminals may reduce expenses for development of operational protection from harmful programs ".
