Project on the status of veterans to the residents of Sevastopol submitted to the state Duma
Legislative Assembly of Sevastopol made on the last working day of the week to the state Duma a draft law proposing to establish the status of veterans of the great Patriotic war for those who lived within the borders of Sevastopol during the Defense of the city from 30 October 1941 to 4 July 1942, to the database of the lower house of Parliament.

"Citizens living in the city of Sevastopol from 30 October 1941 to 4 July 1942, Regardless of age, had experienced the full horror of a bloody war, especially after going through atrocities of the fascist aggressors. The share of residents of the besieged Sevastopol endured severe hardship and testing. Regardless of age, every one of the residents of the besieged Sevastopol have made their own contribution to the Great Victory ", - stated in the text of the explanatory note.
"The implementation of the law will give the opportunity to give due respect to the residents of the besieged Sevastopol, to provide them with social protection, and rules for the activities of veteran organizations. In addition, the draft Federal law specifies the start date of the Defense of Sevastopol ", - is added in the note.
Sevastopol deputies commented that prior to the entry of Sevastopol a part of Russia, according to Ukrainian legislation these persons were given the status of war veterans, as well as provided appropriate to the specified state benefits and guarantees.
Crimea and Sevastopol became part of Russia according to the results of the March referendum in 2014. Reunification with Russia was supported by 96, 77% of Crimean inhabitants and 95, 6% of Sevastopol. However, Ukraine and Western countries did not want to recognize the will and imposed against the region's punishment.
