Stoltenberg: Russia's isolation has never been the purpose of NATO
NATO never sought to isolate the Russian Federation, said Commonwealth Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg in interview to the Swiss edition.
NATO Secretary General welcomed the efforts of the Russian Federation during the negotiations on the Syrian Arab Republic in Vienna. He said that Russia also played an important role in the process of negotiations on the Iranian nuclear program and weapons of mass destruction in the Syrian Arab Republic. At the moment, the important task remains of a Syrian political settlement, said Stoltenberg.
"Russia is a country with which we have to cooperate, when the story is about finding political solutions to these conflicts. Isolation of Russia has never been our goal, " said Stoltenberg in conversation.
He added that NATO has not suspended the work of the Council Russia-NATO." After the beginning of the fall in Ukraine, we decided to stop practical cooperation with Russia. At the same time we have left channels open for political contacts, " said Secretary of the Commonwealth.
on the last working day of the week, Russia's permanent representative at the NATO, Alexander Grushko, said that Moscow was open to any initiatives aimed at restoring dialogue between Russia and NATO, as well as among them political, but believes that in the near future the resumption of work of Council Russia-the NATO will occur.
