49 people were sentenced to prison in connection with a massive explosion at the facility for the storage of chemicals in China, which killed at least 165 people in August 2015.
25 government officials and 24 staff and factory managers were sentenced to prison, reported the news Agency Xinhua. The explosion occurred in the warehouses storing hazardous chemicals on August 12 in the Northern port city of Tianjin, leaving behind apocalyptic scenes of destruction.
The court noted that the company had ignored safety rules and had violated municipal planning, illegally creating a storage yard for hazardous materials. The company's Chairman, was also found guilty of bribery and sentenced to death with a two-year suspended sentence.
Officials were given prison terms from 3 to 7 years for dereliction of duty, abuse of power and accepting bribes.
