The plane with the Republican Vice-presidential candidate Mike Pence skidded off the runway on Thursday evening. He landed at LaGuardia in new York. There were no reports of injuries and a hard landing that took place on a rainy Thursday evening in the city.
A Boeing 737-700 of the company Eastern Airlines landed and left the runway. After the plane completely stopped, the Governor of Indiana came to the back of the plane to check everything was in order.
Stephanie Grisham, press Secretary for the campaign of Donald trump, said shortly after the incident, that trump was "very glad that no one on Board was injured." During the incident, trump was in Ohio, where he later spoke at a rally in Geneva. "I just spoke with our future Vice President, he's fine. You know he had an accident? All right. What a great guy Mike Pence. What a great job he's doing."
Rescue teams responded quickly to the incident where there was some noticeable damage to the runway, although a representative of the company told reporters that there was no structural damage to the aircraft. The return journey of the Governor of Indiana to new York was initially postponed due to adverse weather conditions.
A spokesman for the Federal aviation administration announced it will be investigating the incident. The American official said that the national Council for transport safety has gathered preliminary information about the incident and launched a team to investigate Friday morning.
