Samsung has failed in the hope to limit unwanted consequences of their exploding smartphone Galaxy Note 7.
Firm of South Korea decided on Tuesday to permanently stop the sale and production of Galaxy Note 7 in just a few hours after it asked customers to stop using all versions of the smartphone. Its shares fell 8% in Seoul, losing about $17 billion of the market value of the company.
The high-end was supposed to be a competitor to Apple (AAPL, Tech30) iPhone 7, but instead caused serious damage to the reputation of Samsung.
"It is a painful step, but perhaps not entirely bad, in the Grand scheme of things, as it helps isolate and contain bad perception to that specific product, not to sow fear that all the Samsung phones can explode," said Bryan MA, Vice President, test devices for IDC.
Trust the world's largest smartphone maker has been shaken after a series of blunders. He was forced to withdraw about 2.5 million 7s in early September, just two weeks after it was launched the phone. He then began to produce spare phones, but customers reported that these devices are also ignited, including one on Board a passenger plane.
First priority to determine what went wrong. The company initially blamed the problems with the battery from one supplier. Experts say that the design flaw may be responsible. After the reason becomes known, Samsung will have to be sincere with their clients. Otherwise, the failure of the Galaxy Note 7 may hurt sales of other phones and Samsung products.
