The suspect in the attack on a mosque in Quebec brought charges
The suspect in a deadly attack in a mosque in the city of Quebec was known by local activists for his extreme right-wing views, according to news agencies.

27-year-old Alexander Bissonnette entered the Islamic cultural centre on Sunday night during evening prayers and opened fire on men, women and children. 6 people were killed. He was convicted on 6 counts of murder in the first degree reported in accordance with the Royal canadian mounted police in Quebec. Bissonnette, a student at Laval University, lived in an apartment a few kilometers from the mosque.

Bissonnette was known on the Internet for speaking out inspired by the far-right French nationalists. He was a student at the University of Laval in Quebec. Bissonnette worked in the call center, located in University, Hema-Quebec, which controls blood in the province, according to the press-Secretary of the organization Laurent Paul Menord. Neighbors said Bissonnette rented an apartment with his brother near the mosque. He was unknown to police and did not appear in any lists, authorities said.

Bissonnette will remain in custody until his appearance in court, scheduled for 21 February. Authorities have not named a possible motive, but the Prime Minister of Canada Justin Trudeau condemned the attack as an act of terrorism. Police initially said two militants attacked the mosque, but later came to the conclusion that the second man was a witness. This man, Mohamed Belkhadir was arrested and later released by police after a witness mistakenly identified him as a suspect.
