The United States lost the trade battle with Mexico. Mexico and the United States for many years fought for the import of tuna. On Tuesday, the world trade organization ruled in favor of Mexico, allowing it to impose trade sanctions amounting to $163 million a year in the United States.
The WTO argues that so much money Mexico lost because of unreasonably punishable Mexican tuna in the United States. In turn, President trump wants to renegotiate the free trade Agreement NAFTA between the USA, Mexico and Canada.
The administration trump took the first steps to deal with Canada on Monday night when the Commerce Department announced a 20% tariff on canadian softwood lumber. There followed the war of words between canadian and American leaders.
Mexican officials have for many years insisted that the laws of the United States diskriminerad their tuna, but other countries do not face the same level of coercion. They claimed that they maintain international standards of commercial fishing and environmental protection.
