"I had no choice: they destroy Marawi, I have thrown them out, but I'm sorry," said Duterte. He spoke in a temporary evacuation centre for hundreds of residents of the Northern city of Mindanao who were forced to leave their homes. "I will rebuild Marawi", - he promised.
The battle resulted in many deaths and has caused a humanitarian crisis in the country. According to the government of the Philippines, more than 330 thousand people were forced to leave their homes. Most of them found shelter with friends and relatives, but more than 16 thousand civilians were housed in the evacuation center, where state institutions are trying to provide basic needs.
