Pope Francis spoke about sexual violence

In December last year Pope Francis wrote a letter to bishops around the world, talking about the pain that his Church did to children who have been sexually abused.

"It is a sin, which scares us," said Dad. "Sin, what happened, the sin of failing to help, the sin of concealment and denial, the sin of abuse of power". He promised to take "all necessary measures" to "these atrocities" will never happen in the Church, where there would be "zero tolerance" to anyone who causes harm to children.

This is the video interview, which the Catholics had expected when they elected Francis in 2013. He never worked in Rome and earned a reputation as incorruptible, speaking as an Archbishop in Argentina.

But as the crisis of sexual violence continues to revolve around the Church, the promises of Francis faced a brick wall of opposition of the Vatican. His plan was rejected. Two appointed to his work on the protection of children went or were sent on leave after struggle with officers of the Church. And now he faces the biggest test, after one of his key advisors, cardinal George Pell, has been accused of sexual assault in her native Australia on Wednesday. Although Francis promised to punish officials involved in sexual abuse, he also doesn't believe "gossip", as he calls it, and offers mercy to sinners, especially to those with whom he has close ties.

"He has a blind spot when it comes to people close to him," said John Thavis, author of "the Vatican Diaries" and a former Bureau chief of the Roman Catholic news service. Australian police have described the charges as "historic attack", but has not released information about the charges or did not disclose any information about alleged victims, saying only that there are many charges from the "multiple applicants".

The Vatican said that Pella will be granted leave to participate in the trial, and the trial will begin on July 18.
