North Korea has warned that the upcoming military exercises the US and South Korea's "reckless behavior that causes the situation to an uncontrollable phase of nuclear war."
Pyongyang also said that his army can at any moment focus on the United States, and neither GUAM nor Hawaii or the mainland United States cannot "evade the merciless strike."
Tensions between the U.S. and North Korea have increased in recent weeks. Just last week, Pyongyang said that it had completed a plan to fire 4 missiles on US territory in GUAM.
The U.S. military and administration officials trump said that the 10-day military exercises, which began Monday, will go according to plan. Annual exercises counteract Pyongyang, which sees them as practice for the invasion. However, the US and South Korea say they are purely defensive.
U.S. Secretary of state Rex Tillerson and the Minister of defence James Mattis last week said that the United States keep military options on the table. Tillerson said that a peaceful, diplomatic pressure was the preferred method to force Pyongyang to stop testing of nuclear ballistic missiles with nuclear weapons. But he added that the diplomatic approach "underpinned by military threat" if North Korea decides to move forward with destabilizing acts.
China urged Washington and Pyongyang to tone down the rhetoric and stop actions that inflame tensions, the testing of missiles on the side of North Korea and military exercises with the United States and South Korea.
