Jaden Smith appeared alongside his Hollywood father in The Pursuit of Happyness and landed the lead role in a remake of Karate Kid aged just 10. Will and his wife Jada Pinkett Smith understand the pressures of being a successful actor and jokingly gave their child the chance to change his mind and live a quiet life before he began shooting his new movie alongside Jackie Chan.
"They`re all about hard work, so they`re like, `Do you want to do this?`" Jaden said about his parents to the Chicago-Sun Times. "`Because if you want to be a superstar, we can make you a superstar. But we need to have hard work.`
"And I`m like, `Yeah, I`ll work hard.? And I did... and then they`re like, ?All right, Jaden, you`re about to blow up. Are you sure you still want to do this? We can change your name, hide you in Africa.` And I was like, `Let`s do it.` And this is what happened."
Jaden, now 11, also joked he settled on a career in Hollywood after his mother revealed 13-year-old girls would be swooning over him. "That?s when it got in my heart," he laughed.
The remake of Karate Kid was predominantly shot in Beijing, China. Chan plays martial arts mentor Mr. Han, while Jaden portrays his enthusiastic protégé Dre Parker.
Will co-produced the film with Jada and he is so confident the movie will be a hit, he is already talking about Jaden reprising his role for further instalments.
"As soon as we wrapped off the set," Jaden revealed, "my dad was talking about a sequel."
