The US rapper has had huge success with his singles, including `Low` - which was named the seventh most downloaded song of all time on iTunes in February this year - and `Right Round`, which reached number one in the UK and US single charts, but said commercial success isn`t what he strives for.
He said: "You`re trying to sell records, sell singles - do it all. But I`m not too fond of even just worrying about that.
"The most important thing is just, you know, connecting with the fans on a worldwide basis because a lot of times you`ll see numbers and that doesn`t play a part in the whole worldwide numbers."
Flo has also recently embraced a new sound, working with DJ and producer David Guetta on `Club Can`t Handle Me` to produce a dance music influenced hip hop hit, and Flo explained he had been very keen to fit his words to the DJs dance-pop style for a long time.
He told the Los Angeles Times: "I`d seen David`s following and really wanted to work in his universe, in the European club scene. Tight, melodic raps really fit with that style."
Flo added his next album, `Only One Flo (Part 2)` will have a more traditional hip hop sound and will be released "in the next couple of months".
