The most popular fir-trees of season in USA became upturned trees.
Slogan "Under upturned fir-tree is more space for presents" worked. Hanging fir-trees also have success: they are attached to ceiling and illuminate room as unusual "seasonal" lamps.
But all new is well-forgotten old. Last time fashion for upturned fir-trees was noticed in Victorian England. Often the top of large tree was cut off to fit it in the room. The remains of "mini-fir tree" were attached to ceiling and decorated in special way. The same way doorways were decorated with branches and wreaths from acutifoliate in English speaking countries.
