MAKHACHKALA. Nov 10 - A major terrorist attack has been prevented in Dagestan.
Law enforcement operatives revealed and seized five powerful improvised bombs in a house in the community of Okhli in the Levashi district early on Thursday, Dagestani Interior Ministry spokesman Abdulmanap Musayev told Interfax on Thursday.
The bombs were made of buckets filled with explosives and shrapnel, which were covered with construction foam. Each bomb weighed from 8 to 12 kilos. "The thugs were scheduling a terrorist attack for the celebration of `Id al-Fitr, when the republic`s leaders were supposed to visit the district. Something failed, and they postponed the terrorist attack to November 12, when an international freestyle wrestling tournament for the Dagestani State Council Chairman`s Award starts in Levashi.
The entire leadership of the republic is expected to arrive in the district on that day. Thanks to the operatives` skillful actions, the terrorist attack has been prevented, and the house`s owner has been detained," Musayev said.
