Brilliant necklace from collection of Russian imperial family was sold for 2.036 millions of Swiss francs ($1.535 millions) on auction of Sotheby`s house.
In opinion of experts, necklace was created in second half of XVIII century for Empress Ekaterina II the Great. Its cost is estimated in 1.5-2.5 millions of Swiss francs.
During 80 years fortune of necklace was unknown. After death of Ekaterina II in 1796 it was stored in Winter palace in St. Petersburg.
In 1927 necklace was bought on auction by London local jeweler who then resold it to private collector. From then it stated in private hands and, by rumors, belonged to royal family of Western Europe.
Necklace represents a line of 27 large brilliants in silver which are framed with small brilliants from both sides. Buckle of necklace made in the shape of now, also from brilliants.
