Russian ministry confirmed selling missiles to Iran
Russian defense minister Sergey Ivanov has confirmed officially the fact of selling anti-aircraft missile complexes "Tor-M1" to Iran, RIA "Novosti" reports. "Indeed, the agreement with Iran for delivery of anti-aircraft complexes "Tor" was signed. That will not change balance of forces in the region unambiguously", - said Ivanov during the press conference in Moscow. He noticed that all deliveries for Iran Russia is accomplishing keeping within international legislation.
According to Ivanov anti-aircraft "Tor-M1" are "total-lot armaments of medium range". "These complexes may be used only in case of appearance of aircrafts within a short radius. They cannot strike the ground - these are defensive armaments", - said the minister.
Russian Foreign Ministry confirmed the fact of the bargain earlier. Russian diplomats noticed the matter concerns only defensive armaments, too.
The deal of selling 29 anti-aircraft complexes "Tor" was the part of contract-package made between Iran and Russia in the end of November. Besides missile complexes Russia is going to deliver patrol boats for Iranian naval forces and modernize war-planes Su-29 and MiG-29 of Soviet production.
Total sum of the package of contracts by the approximate estimate is $1 milliard.
