Released from Nigeria Russian sailors intend to raise financial claims towards Greek company, owner of the ship African Pride.
"Russian sailors are released but they didn`t get wage for 2 years and 2 months. Welfare standards of the sailors don`t allow them to refuse from wage", - said UNESKO ambassador of good will Ara Abramyan, who contributed much to discharge of sailors.
By his words, sailors also have claims to Nigerian side because they consider illegal their presence in prison.
"Of course, Russian sailors have signed the document, which stated that they have no claims. But one will sign anything in Nigerian prison. There are claims. In my opinion, sailors were illegally imprisoned for 2 years and 2 months", - said Abramyan.
Tanker "African Pride" with 12 Russian sailors was detained on October 8, 2003 near Nigerian shore. By data of Nigerian authorities, crude oil was discovered on the board. Crew of the tanker was arrested on accusation of contraband. Russians were placed in prison of strict regime, and tanker was driven away by Greek owner to another country.
