Putin and Yushenko to discuss gas issue during visit to Nazarbaev
During telephone conversation between Russian and Ukrainian presidents Vladimir Putin and Victor Yushenko arranged meeting and negotiations on January 11 in Astana, where they are invited for inauguration of Kazakhstan president Nursultan Nazarbaev. This was informed by official site of Russian president.
Despite the fact that subject of forth-coming negotiations has not been announced yet, Ukrainian mass media informs that Yushenko, in particular, intends to suggest increase of Russian gas transit through Ukrainian territory and to construct new pipelines in this view.
The day before Yushenko commented the treaty about gas supplies, conducted between "Ukrainian Naftogas" and "Gazprom", and announced that this document is "a political victory" of Kiev over Moscow.
But not all Ukrainians share president`s opinion. Ex-minister of the country Yulia Timoshenko thinks that "one can consider current agreement successful only after drinking too much during New Year`s night".
As a reminder, Ukraine and Russia signed 5-year treaty about gas supplies on January 4, 2006.
