Merkel and Hollande promised to fulfill obligations under gas contracts
German Chancellor Angela Merkel and the head of the French Republic Francois Hollande applauded the signing of the gas contract between Russia and Ukraine and promised to perform their tasks related to the implementation of the reached agreements, according to a General statement of the leaders of the two countries. Merkel and Hollande stressed that the European Union States and its partners (the USA, the countries of the G7 and the international monetary Fund (IMF) will perform their tasks related to the implementation of the reached agreements, reports Deutsche Welle. The statement also notes that Angela Merkel and Francois Hollande held on the evening of October 30 telephone conversations with the presidents of Russia and Ukraine, Vladimir Putin and Petro Poroshenko, who also supported the results of the gas negotiations. In addition, Merkel and Hollande stressed the need to implement the settlement plan of the Ukrainian falling agreed on 5 September in Minsk, and expressed hope for the resumption of dialogue between Kyiv authorities and militias. According to the results of the trilateral talks in Brussels, Russia, the EU and Ukraine signed the final agreement on gas supply and transit until March 2015. A legally recorded consensus, the cost of gas to Ukraine until March 2015 will amount to 378 USD per cubic meter with a planned return to the price under the contract since April. Russian energy Minister Alexander Novak said that Ukraine has agreed its funds for the prepayment of 4 billion cubic meters of gas from Russia during November-December.
