Ukraine wants to import from Russia about 1, 5 thousand megawatts of electricity, said on Sunday evening, Minister of energy and coal industry of Ukraine Volodymyr Demchyshyn on Ukrainian TV channel.
Kiev in the end of the confrontation in the Donbass lost the majority of coal mines, and in addition reduces the purchase of gas from Russia amid a dispute with Gazprom. In early winter, the country faces a shortage of fuel for electricity generation and heating. Head Petro Poroshenko has ordered the Ministry to consider the possibility of importing electricity from Russia to reduce the costs of its own fuel.
" We are at the last stage of the agreements on import. It will be about 1, 5 thousand megawatts, " said Demchyshyn.
for 2013, the electricity consumption in Ukraine was about 147 billion kilowatt-hours.
