EC: Russian gas transit through Turkey is obliged to discuss with the European Union
Any decisions on the transportation of gas from Russia to the European Union via Turkey must be made in agreement with the European block and can't break existing obligations in the gas sector, said Vice-President of the European Commission for energy Union maro? ?ef?ovi? during his visit to Ankara.
"When we talk about large deliveries to European customers, it is impossible to take such a decision without discussion with them, without discussion with the EU and the European Commission," he said, Sefcovic Agency.
according to his statement, Any plans for the transportation of Russian gas through Turkey to the EU are required to be economically viable and must comply with the obligations of Gazprom relatively long-term customers in the European Union. Sefcovic also said that the EC had not received any details on the proposal of the Russian Federation.
He also expressed concern on the possible disconnection of existing pipelines through Ukraine in favor of Turkish stream." If all this is bound to change so, I don't think it's a common procedure, and so should be treated with such a large customer, such as the EU, " He said.
Russia in early December announced the abandonment of the project of the gas pipeline " South stream ", which was obliged to pass under the Black sea and through Bulgaria to deliver fuel to the Balkan Republic and Hungary, Austria and Italy. The project was abandoned, and among them, due to the unconstructive position of the EU. Instead it was decided to build the pipeline to Turkey and make the border with Greece for the southern European gas hub clients.
