There is a threat of oil storages` and sewage disposal plants` underflooding, which may lead to ecological catastrophe. This was reported by press-service of Southern regional center of Russian Emergency Ministry.
"In case sewage disposal plants, sewerage systems, storages and sedimentation tanks are flooded there is a high threat to population health and a high risk of ecologic catastrophe", - said representative of press-service.
Moreover, one should not forget about oil processing, storing and selling objects. "Man-caused fuel bed was formed under every object for years of exploitation", - he said.
As representative of Emergency Ministry explained, "even in conditions of normal exploitation certain volumes of oil products may leak to near-by rivers and reservoirs. During high water the risk of oil leakage to water increases sufficiently".
As a reminder, during summer flood of 2002 dozens thousand tons of oil and oil products flew to Terek and Sunja rivers from destroyed and damaged oil storages on territory of Chechnya, Dagestan and Ingushetia. In some places water pollution by 500 times exceeded maximum allowable norm.
