Kharkov city council voted for giving to the Russian status of regional language on Monday.
This decision supported 53 deputies of 75 participated in the voting.
As it was noted at the session of city council, deputies gave official status to the Russian language, being based on the European charter of regional languages, by the ratified Ukraine.
In accordance with this decision Kharkov city council and the executing agencies of the city in their works, official documents and communications will use two languages - Ukrainian and Russian.
Furthermore, the Russian language will be used on the level with the Ukrainian when inhabitants of Kharkov appeal to the state, party and civil organizations.
