The head of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko signed a decree on the celebration of the 100 anniversary of the victory of the Ukrainian Sich Riflemen at the battle of mount domes in the Lviv region over parts of the Russian Empire. About this Ukrainian journal "Dialogue" citing the website of the presidential administration of Ukraine.
The celebrations will take place "in order to honor the courage and heroism of the fighters for independence of Ukraine, taking into account the important role of the Ukrainian Sich Riflemen in the revival of national military traditions, their active participation in the Ukrainian revolution of 1917 - 1921," the magazine quoted the text of the document.
It is also noted that the festive events will be held in Kyiv, Lviv, and " other settlements ".
Battle mountain domes lasted several days, from 29 April to 4 may 1915 during the First world war. The fighting took place between parts of the Russian Imperial army and the troops of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Storm the mountain from the beginning, ended in victory for the Russians, however, other pending strategic objectives did not allow the troops of the Russian Empire to hold the position occupied, which led to the withdrawal of Russian troops from the area of hostilities. Ukrainian Sich Riflemen at the time was part of the army of Austria-Hungary.
