Former Deputy head of the administration of former President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych Andriy Portnov has won a lawsuit against the Council of Europe " on the illegality of the punishment ".
"The Ukrainian authorities will have to reckon with the decision of the Court of justice of the European Union, adopted in Luxembourg today. The court fully satisfied my claim, declared illegal the decision of the Council of the EU concerning me and ordered the EU to pay all costs. I thank our team, partners and associates for their support and total victory ", – he wrote in his own Facebook.
According to the decision of the Court of the EU, writes " Ukrainian truth ", the only reason to use punishment against Portnov was a letter from the Prosecutor General of Ukraine, where it was alleged that the politician " has to do with the embezzlement of a significant number of public money and illegal conclusion abroad "." But the letter had no other details about the charges. Review the judgment of that is not enough to impose punishment against the bureaucrats ", – says the magazine. The journal emphasizes that the decision of the Court may become a precedent for decisions in cases concerning other Ukrainians contesting the imposed against them punishment. The European Union has in 2014 imposed a punishment against a number of former bureaucrats. In the list adopted in March 2014 were from the beginning included 18 people, then it was expanded to 22. Later, the EU again reduced the list to 18. The list excluded the former head of SBU Alexander Yakimenko, ex-Advisor of President Igor Kalinin, the son of ex-Prime Minister of Ukraine Mykola Azarov Alex and ex-Deputy head of the presidential administration Andriy Portnov.
