It`s an honor to be nominated and even better to win, but for viewers at home, one of the best things about the Grammy Awards is the dazzling - and often surprising - array of artists who come together for unique live performances.
Remember Prince and Beyoncé bringing down the house with a funky rendition of "Purple Rain" on 2004`s show? Or the Jonas Brothers teaming with Stevie Wonder last year? Don?t forget Radiohead`s mind-blowing collaboration with the University of Southern California Trojan Marching Band.
While the Recording Academy is likely drafting a wish list of presenters and performers now - last year`s telecast boasted 25 musical numbers! - PEOPLE humbly submits some pairings we`d love to see when the Grammy Awards air on CBS on Jan. 31.
Taylor Swift & Kanye West
Pair country music`s reigning superstar - and eight-time nominee - Taylor Swift with Kanye West for a run through her record of the year nominated hit "You Belong With Me" and we`re guessing sparks could fly. Kanye may not be Swift`s parents` idea of an ideal beau but the song is all about how opposites attract. We say let genres collide and the healing begin!
Lady Gaga & David Bowie
Pop provocateur Lady Gaga`s musical personality is nothing if not outsized. But David Bowie was experimenting with outrageous fashion and out-of-this world musical personalities since the `70s. Sure, we could have paired Gaga up with Grace Jones - likely another idol and inspiration - but we`d love to see what happens with Bowie and a high-concept staging of a medley of Gaga`s hits.
Kings of Leon & Eric Clapton
Southern rockers Kings of Leon released one of the year`s most infectious, emotional singles in their surging record of the year nominated ballad "Use Somebody." The song craves drama and who better to bring it that rock luminary and guitar master Eric Clapton? Plus, the Grammys love a self-congratulatory move like trotting out a major winner - Clapton received a lifetime achievement award in 2006 - during the show.
Beyoncé & Ting Tings
British pop duo and best new artist nominees the Ting Tings had a hit with the syncopated ditty "That`s Not My Name" - and Beyoncé famously asked everyone (through song) to "Say My Name." Plus, she loves a multiple personality. (Hello, Sasha Fierce!) But nomenclature aside, we think these three could do a mean rendition of the "Single Ladies" dance.
Black Eyed Peas & Susan Boyle
Susan Boyle can belt a show tune and bring a room to tears - but can she get down with Fergie and her Black Eyes Peas bandmates? It may be a stretch, but we`d just love to hear Boyle try out the rappers` best dance recording nominated jam "Boom Boom Pow" in her prim, multi-octave voice!
