The United States will "increase military advantage" in the face of Chinese territorial expansionism and other regional threats, it enters the next phase of the pivot to Asia, said the Minister of defense.
"Rebalancing" in the Asia-Pacific region will guarantee that the US "remains strong and is able to repel the attack in the region," Pentagon chief ash Carter said the U.S. Navy aboard the aircraft carrier Carl Vinson in San Diego.
Rumor has it that China continues to build military facilities, forcing nervous neighbors. most analysts agree that China is increasing its military installations on disputed reefs in the South China sea, one of the busiest in the world shipping channels.
In a post on his Facebook page, Carter called the area "the most significant area for the future of America" and said the strong US military presence there has a "fundamental strategic importance for our country."
Carter said that the region is undergoing "historical change" where "China is growing and that's good, but behaves aggressively, and it's wrong." He also pointed to the strengthening of military deterrent and defensive forces in the face of North Korea who continue to "nuclear and missile provocations."
Along with the expansion of territorial claims, China is also developing its capabilities in cyber-espionage, and in the last two years have been accused of hacking several U.S. government and private business databases.
