Two Mexican mayor and Deputy mayor have been killed in different parts of the country on Saturday, according to Mexican officials.
Ambrosio Soto Duarte, the mayor Pungarayacu was killed in a small town in the state of Guerrero, was announced at a press conference on Sunday.
Duarte was driving on the highway when two pickups stopped his car, said one of the officials. A firefight ensued. Duarte was killed, two police officers were injured while trying to detain the suspect.
Duarte since January, had received threats, prompting him to hire security for themselves and their families, the official said. He was not the only government official who met a violent death on Saturday.
Domingo lÃ³pez gonzÃ¡lez, mayor of San Juan Chamula, and the Vice-mayor Narciso has Lunes Fernandez was among five people who were shot in the main square of the city, said the Secretary of government of Chiapas, Juan Carlos gÃ³mez Aranda. They met with the residents, when a group of armed men began to shoot the crowd. Another 12 people were injured, he said.
