There are countless creatures on Earth that man has yet to discover. Two scientists from Hawaii believe that they have opened one of them and it is a stunning miracle.
Sea sponge-size "minivan" was discovered deep in the ocean near the Hawaiian Islands, according to data published this week in scientific journal marine biodiversity.
Scientists on Board NOAA ship Okeanos Explorer, I noticed a massive sea creature at a depth of 7 thousand ft within Papahanaumokuakea, protected US, covering 140 thousand square miles of ocean, during a monthly expedition from July to August 2015.
The remote device typically used to study deep sea stumbled on the ground. Scientists were on the ship, on the ocean surface and had to remove the pan from the remote video feed to find out what it is.
Because of the size of the creature, the researchers were able to assume that this is sort of a sponge. Scientist Daniel Wagner, who made the discovery with biologist Christopher Kelley is the lead author of the report.
This is probably a new species of sponge, said Wagner.
"Most experts who watched this video said:" I've never seen this before, "said Wagner CNN.
The scientists collected samples of the sponge in an attempt to identify it, or at least what it might be like. Also, scientists are trying to figure out how it is being old. About sponges is not much known, some of them are found in shallow water 2300 years ago.
With ground length of over 3.5 meters, 2 meters high and 1.5 meters in width, this creature can be hundreds of years, said Wagner.
Wagner and a group of scientists expected to find corals and sponges during the expedition, but they didn't expect to see something so massive. "We expect that this environment is very stable, one of the most pristine places on Earth - gives the sponge an opportunity to develop," said the scientist.
