On arrival ambulance Cornell was pronounced dead at the scene, he said.

Cornell was in Detroit, speaking with Soundgarden in the USA, which was launched last month. His departure was "unexpected," said his spokesman, Brian Bambi in a statement to CNN. "His wife Vicki and his family were shocked upon learning of his unexpected and sudden death, they work closely with the medical examiner to determine the cause," - said in a statement. "They wanted to thank their fans for their continued love and devotion and asked to respect their privacy at this time".

Won a Grammy rocker spoke Wednesday night at the Fox theatre in Detroit. He ended his speech with a cover version of Led Zeppelin "In My Time of Dying".

Cornell began his career on the rock scene in Seattle. In 1984 he formed the band Soundgarden which became famous in the grunge rock movement of the early 1990s. the Band broke up in 1997 and released a greatest hits album of the same year. The collapse was not unusual, Cornell told CNN in 2012. "It was just time for a break," he said. In 2001, Cornell joined three former members of Rage Against the Machine to form Audioslave. The most successful single, "Like a Stone" was released in 2003. The defining moment of the band was concert 2005 in Cuba, which at that time was declared the country's first concert of the American rock band.
