According to the Ministry of defense of Russia, published in the state news Agency TASS, a Russian fighter jet intercepted American bomber over the Baltic sea in international waters.
"6 June, the Russian monitoring of the airspace identified aerial target, flying along the state border of Russia on the international waters of the Baltic sea. For target intercept was sent to the su-27, according to the statement, quoted by TASS. "The crew of the Russian plane SU-27 approached the b-52 and accompanied him for some time, the report says.
"USAF B-52 on a mission in support of several planned exercises in international airspace over the Baltic sea, was intercepted by a Russian SU-27", - reads the statement of Lieutenant Colonel Michelle L. Baldanza, the representative of the press service of the Ministry of defense.
Earlier this month, the U.S. air force deployed B-52 bombers and 800 pilots in the United Kingdom in support of joint exercises with allies and NATO partners that occur across Europe. It is expected that these planned exercises will be conducted primarily at the borders of Russia - in particular, in the Baltic sea with several partners from NATO.
In a statement the Ministry of defense of Russia in the TASS report also said that the Russian MiG-31 intercepted the Norwegian aircraft P-3C Orion on Tuesday in international waters over the Barents sea.
