Venezuelan opposition summed up the "people
Millions of Venezuelans voted against the decision of President Nicolas Maduro to rewrite the country's Constitution.

Approximately 7.2 million Venezuelans took part in an optional referendum, organized by the major opposition parties in the country, with the vast majority of voters opposed the plan Maduro. Venezuela is in the grip of social unrest, which paralysed the country among violent protests demanding government reform.

The government called the referendum illegal and instead urged to vote on 30 July to elect a special Assembly to rewrite the 1999 Constitution.

The rector of the Central University of Venezuela, Cecilia Garcia Arocha, announced the results at the headquarters of the referendum in Caracas, stating that the number of polling stations in 2030 will be much lower than on regular elections. According to the report, based on data compiled by the National Committee for elections in 2015, the turnout is about 37% of the total electorate of Venezuela.

In 2013, Maduro was elected with a little over 7.5 million votes, while Henrique Capriles took second place with 7.3 million votes. At the same time, supporters of Maduro also filed Bulletin - the government had conducted a rehearsal of the constitutional elections of 30 July.
