Died the writer and Director of cult horror movie "night of the living dead" George A. Romero. He died on Sunday. He was 77 years old.

Romero called the "father of modern horror films". He died after a "brief but aggressive battle with lung cancer," said his longtime production partner Peter Grunwald. Grunwald said that Romero had died "peacefully in his sleep" while watching "the Quiet man", one of his favourite movies with his wife, Suzanne Desrocher Romero and dochery Tina Romero.

Romero was born in 1940 in new York. His debut with the release of "Night of the living dead" in 1968, which became his first feature film with a budget of $114 thousand . The film, criticized by the press, became a hit among horror fans and lovers of love.

Romero continued his work in the horror genre during the 1980-ies. In 1990, he rewrote the original script for "the Living dead" for the first remake of the franchise. This was followed by "land of the dead" in 2005. In 2006, Romero created the "Diary of the dead", which launched the new cycle of "the Living dead" zombie films, which also included "Survival of the dead" in 2009.

His latest project was a graphic novel called "Empire of the dead", which was published by Marvel. A writer from new York Cynthia Heimel wrote in 1980 that Romero "is known for making the worst movies you'll ever see."
