The British actor was propelled to international stardom playing brooding vampire Edward Cullen in the Twilight franchise. Although he is now one of the hottest stars in Hollywood, Robert finds living in the public spotlight difficult to handle. The hunk admits his hectic schedule has seen him grow apart from pals and he claims his only trusted companion is his beloved guitar.
"I`ve been forced to stay in a hotel for the last three years. It`s frustrating. I almost gave in and bought a house in Hollywood. But luckily I realised how insanely expensive that is and I don`t even know if I`ll still be working next year. I`m comforted by my guitar - my true companion that travels everywhere with me," he is quoted as saying by British newspaper The Sun. "I didn`t need this in the past, until I got back to London and found out I had lost my whole social life. It`s tough maintaining it when you don`t speak to anyone for over a year. I am now trying to get back in touch with some friends through Skype."
Robert admits he rarely forms new friendships because he is suspicious of other people`s motives for wanting to bond with him. The 23-year-old actor is often left feeling guilty after he meets someone because he assumes they are only using him for his fame.
"Being well known is a real burden. I`m less open and have noticed that I`m actually getting paranoid. If people push themselves on me I find it gruelling and repulsive. If I even think someone wants to approach me I feel the need to scream, `What do you want of me`.
"Then later I think, `What if this person only wanted to be nice?` "
