The 35-year-old actor - who recently split from long-term girlfriend Abbie Cornish and is divorced from Reese Witherspoon, the mother of his two children - thinks he has been too serious in the past and now feels like he is experiencing a change in his life.
He said: "My aims right now are primarily just to enjoy myself. I`ve been really self-serious at times. "You could argue with my age that it`s close to midlife. But I really feel like it`s a rebirth. I feel more like myself than I have in 10 years, and more motivated and capable than I have in a long time. I think that`s a great feeling to have at 35."
Ryan also revealed he doesn`t worry too much about how his work is perceived so long as he had the right "intent" behind taking on the project.
He explained in an interview with Men`s Health magazine: "I`ve never been one to follow the crowd. I want to take chances and make movies that provoke thought and conversation.
"One thing I`ve learnt is to do nothing expecting a specific result. Do it only because your heart tells you to. Your intent matters more than the result, otherwise you`re setting yourself up for nothing but disappointment.
