The actress ended her relationship with Jesse following allegations he had cheated on her with a string of women. The reports were made public shortly after she won an Oscar in March, and since then Sandra has retreated from public life. She refused to comment on the claims, but in April confirmed she had filed for divorce. Sandra also announced she was adopting a baby boy, called Louis Bardo, from New Orleans.
It was thought Sandra would make her first official appearance at the MTV Movie Awards, due to take place at the Gibson Amphitheatre in Universal City, California, tonight. However, she surprised many by taking to the stage at Spike TV`s Guys Choice Awards last night.
She appeared alongside Robert Downey Jr., and people from the US Army, Marine Corps and Coast Guard to receive the Troops Choice Entertainer of the Year Award.
Footage of her career highlights was played, after which Sandra appeared to applause and a standing ovation. "Troops deserve something much more than some actress in a tight dress talking about herself," she laughed. "I would sing, but you`ve seen enough pain in your lifetime. I would dance. I`m a pretty good dancer, but as I mentioned, the dress is a little tight.
"Having a dad that`s a veteran, I see the sacrifices you made for this country. I`m so lucky everyday to wake up having what I have and I thank you guys for that."
The 45-year-old actress made no comments about her private life.
The ceremony took place in Los Angeles, and will be aired on June 20 in America.
