Murray is facing manslaughter charges after the `King of Pop` died last June while under his care. Michael died of acute Propofol intoxication by intravenous injection of another, and Murray has admitted administering the powerful sedative, but denies doing anything that would have killed the star.
Yesterday, Murray attended a hearing at a Los Angeles court house to determine whether his Californian medical license would be suspended while he is on trial. After a short deliberation, Judge Michael Pastor decided Murray could continue to practise, shocking the Jackson family.
"It`s not what we expected," Michael`s sister La Toya said outside the courtroom.
Michael?s father Joe, mother Katherine and brother Tito were also in attendance at the hearing. They were visibly horrified by the verdict, and refused to talk to reporters on their way back to their car.
Judge Pastor said he ruled in favour of Murray keeping his license because he didn?t have the "jurisdiction" to go against rulings a previous judge had made in the matter.
"I don`t have ability to revisit the actions of one of my colleagues," he told the court. "I do not have jurisdiction to revisit this matter. It doesn`t have anything to do with how I feel or what I think. It has to do with the law and this court`s ability to follow the law."
Yesterday`s hearing is the fourth time the office of California`s attorney general, on behalf of the state`s medical board, has attempted to suspend Murray`s medical license.
Murray is due back in court to attend a preliminary hearing for his manslaughter charges on August 23.
