The 49-year-old actor - who is a supporter of the Democrat party -doesn?t believe he has lived a clean enough life to be able to run for office.
He told Newsweek magazine: "I didn`t live my life in the right way for politics. I slept with too many chicks and did too many drugs, and that`s the truth."
Despite his own apparent indiscretions, Clooney doesn`t think a colourful private life should stop people from getting involved in politics.
The Hollywood heartthrob - who is playing a politician in his next movie `The Ides of March` - said: "Just start from the beginning by saying, `I did it all. I drank the bong water. Now let`s talk about issues.? "
He jokingly added: "That`s going to be my campaign slogan, `I drank the bong water.` "
A bong is a type of water-based smoking device usually used to inhale burnt cannabis.
Rather than restrict himself as a politician, George would much rather focus on his humanitarian work, which includes raising awareness of the war in Sudan.
The actor - who has funded a satellite overlooking a region of the North East African country to monitor military movements - said: "I`m not tied to the UN or the US government, and so I don`t have the same constraints. I`m a guy with a camera from 480 miles up. I`m the anti-genocide paparazzi."
