The `Harry Potter` star - who was also known for his roles in `The History Boys` and `Withnail and I` - passed away yesterday (28.03.13) after complications following heart surgery at the University Hospital of Coventry and Warwickshire.
The British actor - who was awarded an OBE in 2008 - leaves behind his wife of 33 years Heather Gibson.
He was best known for portraying Vernon Dursley in the `Harry Potter` movie series and Uncle Monty in 1987 comedy `Withnail and I`.
Richard`s latest acting role saw him star alongside Danny DeVito in a revival of Neil Simon`s play `The Sunshine Boys` last year, and he also appeared as King George II in 2011 movie `Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides` along with Johnny Depp and Penelope Cruz.
The actor also had a long TV career which saw him appear in `The Sweeney`, `Inspector Morse` and `Pie in the Sky`, and he starred in the first episode of Matt LeBlanc`s comedy `Episodes` in 2011.
