Abkhaz MPs call government to investigate attack on Ankvab Abkhaz Peoples Assembly has made a statement about an assault against Prime Minister Alexander Ankvab.

"Destructive forces active both inside and outside Abkhazia are trying to destabilize the situation in the country. The Peoples Assembly of the Republic of Abkhazia sees it as its duty to name everyone who masterminded the crime, enemies of Abkhazia and its people.

"Those who dislike the smooth activity of all power branches of the Republic of Abkhazia, resoluteness of the country?s leadership to establish control and increase defense capacity, those who are irritated by out gradual movement on the way of international recognition of Abkhazia?s independence and positive attitude to us by the international community, must know that methods of intimidation will not bring a success to them, but will strengthen the spirit of our people and unite all the citizens of the Republic of Abkhazia around the country?s leadership.

"The Peoples Assembly of the Republic of Abkhazia claims that the executive branch takes urgent and most resolute measures to investigate the crime and punish the attackers in accordance with the law."

The Abkhaz prime minister was attacked yesterday in Gudauty District. His vehicle was fired upon from a grenade cup discharger. A criminal proceeding is started on the assault at life of a governmental official.
