The Latvian foreign Ministry handed the invitation to the summit of " Eastern partnership "
State Secretary of the Ministry of foreign Affairs of Latvia Andrey Pildegovics on Tuesday in Riga gave the heads of diplomatic missions of Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine addressed to the partner countries a Formal invitation to participate in the 4th summit of the Eastern partnership (EAP), which will be held in Riga on 21 and 22 may of the current year, informs the press service of the foreign Ministry.

Official invitation to the partner countries of the EAP was signed by the head of the European Parliament Donald Tusk, head of the European Commission Jean Claude Juncker and Prime Minister of the Republic of Latvia Laimdota Straujuma.

"The Riga summit will provide an opportunity to assess progress made since the 3rd Eastern partnership summit held in Vilnius. In addition, at the Riga summit will discuss the development of EAP policy and the interaction between the EU and partner countries of the EAP bilateral and multilateral cooperation, " Pildegovics said.

The Eastern partnership is one of 2 policies of the EU neighborhood policy (ENP). The ENP was developed in 2004 to make stronger relations between the EU and neighbouring countries. 1st EAP summit was held in 2009 in Prague (Czech Republic), the second summit in 2011 in Warsaw (Poland), the third EAP summit was held in November 2013 in Vilnius (Lithuania).
