Fire in the forests of the Chernobyl exclusion zone continues for the third day. Ukrainian authorities claim the complete elimination of fire, but some journalists, in contrast, report the occurrence of new fires.

According to environmentalists, the trees in the exclusion zone are not radioactive. The danger is the dust and ashes from fires. "At the moment we are talking about isotopes of cesium. The ash can accumulate and concentrate these isotopes" - quoted by "TSN" Director of the Institute of radiology Dmitry Basica.

The situation is compounded by the fact that the wind direction may change and thus all the smoke will cover the Kiev. Forecasters report that harmful substances will come to the Ukrainian capital on April 30. But that is not necessary to be afraid.

Available the radiation level in Kiev is only 40% of the maximum allowed. Because even a slight increase caused by smoke from Chernobyl fires, will not pose a threat to Kiev. Also no need for shelter and evacuation. But experts still advise you to stock up on gauze bandages, also drink more water.

Over the next days, environmentalists are in emergency mode to make measurements of background radiation. Now on the Geiger index is 12 radiation level at the maximum allowable 30, reports Life News.
